Welcome to the place where you will be able to share your ideas, get information about volunteering opportunities and help us to improve our community.
My name is Lamija Jamak and I am an exchange student from Bosnia and Herzegovina. I am spending this year in the state of Washington in a small city called Marysville. I decided to leave my country and family and go into unknown, guided by will for improving myself as a person and meeting new culture. What really fascinated me is how Americans value volunteering work. Aware of the fact that volunteering work is not very common in Bosnia I decided to use opportunity that GNML is providing and make a blog where everyone willing to volunteer will get information where to go and what to do.
In this introduction post I wanted to share my volunteering experience. First time I've volunteered is at the Marysville food bank, place where I met a lot of very kind people of all ages who sacrifice their free time and spend it to help provide nutrition food to people in need without question or judgment.
Marysville Getchell Campus, my current high school, values leadership and volunteering work. It's involved in many activities in which students are able to participate and give back to their community. One of the opportunities that I was given is volunteering at school organized food drive. Group of students spent their afternoon in front of the big stores, passing flyers, collecting food items and donating it to the Food bank.
One of the interesting opportunities to volunteer
On 10/29 one of the schools in Marysville Getchell Campus organized "haunted house", since the Halloween is coming closer. They have given chance to all students interested to dress up as zombie, doll or clown and be a part of this very fun and creative event.
That would be all for the first post! It is a short one, but no worries there are many more posts to come! Look forward to that :)
